15 years of his death:  Legend Amara Kabba's legacy lives on Last Friday [22nd June] marked exactly 15 years since he departed this world. But Amara Shain Kabba, one of Sierra Leone’s all-time best musicians, left an indelible mark on the West African reggae scene hitting platinum in 2003 with what is perhaps his best album, ‘Confront It’. Amara was highly celebrated both in Sierra Leone and beyond. He lived in Holland where he recorded his album and later returned home with his family in May 2003, when his life tragically ended. The late musician’s wife and daughter were in Freetown last week to commemorate his death anniversary, which took place at the Negus Nagas Complex in Grafton. The Kabba family narrated the life of the legend and how they are working to keep his music alive. Sierra Leone’s leading music superstar, Alhaji Bankaria Bah commonly known as King Boss LA (LAJ), on Wednesday 11 July 2018 officially signed a contract with the country’s leading mobile operator, Africell, to serve as its newest Brand Ambassador for an initial period of one year. The ceremony which attracted some members of the press and staff of the company, took place at Africell headquarters at Wilberforce in Freetown, chaired by John Konte, Manager for AiRadio and also Public Relations Officer of Africell. Welcoming guests present at the meeting John Konte expressed satisfaction to all for gracing the occasion. Recognizing the presence of their distinguish guest, King Boss LA, he stated that Africell has been promoting the entertainment industry and this meeting is part of such action. Fatima Bio is a force. I am fascinated by her in as much as I fear for her. Sierra Leone dances on the fringes of progressive democratic principles yet clearly panders to a paternalistic approach to governance where notions of civic autonomy, agency, empowerment and gender equity are severely loose ideologies. Ideologies, we enjoy picking up from time to time, off the mantle of global pressure, to engage with.
