Amara was highly celebrated both in Sierra Leone and beyond. He lived in Holland where he recorded his album and later returned home with his family in May 2003, when his life tragically ended. The late musician’s wife and daughter were in Freetown last week to commemorate his death anniversary, which took place at the Negus Nagas Complex in Grafton. The Kabba family narrated the life of the legend and how they are working to keep his music alive. Amara Kabba was born in 1962 in Makeni, northern Sierra Leone, to a Madingo father and a Temne mother. He was the second of three sons in the family. They grew up with their father – a comp...
